Dušan Jurkovič's interest in folk architecture was not
driven by his romantic enchantment, but by an effort to make use of
construction principles and building methods that had been tested
in years of practice. His search for the meaning of the ornament
used, resulting from the chosen construction, material or function,
was related to the same idea.
The young design duo Eduard Herrmann and Matěj Coufal have
also based their design thinking on the effort to understand the
essence of the shape of things and the function of their decor,
which accompanied Jurkovič's entire work. Within this year's
seasonal exhibition, they decided to design, manufacture and
install several objects of everyday use that will enter into a
dialogue with Jurkovič and his house. Moreover, they intend to
offer all this in the DIY - Do It Yourself - "open design code", so
that visitors can take away instructions for making "their own
Jurkovič" according to the design of the duo Herrmann & Coufal,
or let them understand what the essence of the shape of things
follows from.
