Pavel Korbička: Dance Calligraphy

The installation of monumental light sculptures by Pavel Korbička (b. 1972) is the outcome of a project following in the tracks of the artist's work in which he centres on various forms of records of ephemeral dance movement. It is complemented by light "site-specific" installations that involve the physical experiencing of a space through the perception of light. The relationship between space and time that can be considered one of the key subjects in visual art, at least since the avant-garde, has long been the focal point of the artist's interest. The traditional point of departure of presenting a time dimension in an artwork is represented by actual human movement. Korbička's three-part light sculpture is based on three chronologically (and thus also physically) different records of an identical dance sequence captured by means of reflexive points placed on the dancer's body.
