The exhibition called “First Architecture” introduces the work of Martin Rajniš, who is one of the most inspirational architects active in the current Czech scene.
The stimulating personality of Martin Rajniš is given by interconnecting his private life with the career of an architect and the sustained endeavour to understand the function of architecture and the architect's role. Questioning established architectural and building procedures has made him review even his own architectural points of departure and from constructionally and technologically demanding projects he has proceeded to look for inspiration in primitive peoples, biological organisms or landscape formation. From large-scale buildings to wooden family homes, towers and sheds. The exhibition captures this reverse movement which can be traced in the architectural oeuvre of Martin Rajniš. It illustrates his personal revolt against the dictates of building material producers, construction standards and the consumer lifestyle. It shows his personalized way towards finding a position of architecture which would be closer to nature and the users of architecture. The aim of the "First Architecture" exhibition is to show inspiration by primitive architecture, which can even today contribute to thinking over current architectural strategies. Inspiration from primitive and folk building procedures is also a prominent theme in the work of Dušan Jurkovič.
Part of the exhibition project is a workshop by Martin Rajniš with students of the Department of Architecture of VUT Brno and the Forestry and Wood Processing Faculty of Mendel University in Brno taking place at the turn of March and April. The intention is to use natural seeded trees as material for the construction of objects following the example of primitive architecture. The workshop will test and apply the alternatives offered by using self-seeded trees in the construction of buildings.
This project was realized thanks to financial support given by the Statutory City of Brno.
