Within The Abyss (Brno version), 2013-2015 installation, BORIS ONDREIČKA presents himself as a non-conformist encyclopaedist. Trawling online archives and Google, he collects historical material dedicated to the development of material culture. Through his own texts, he assigns categories to the individual sets of imaginary meanings that he generates from his archive. Yet efforts at categorization and typology deliberatly clash. Text and image enter a myriad of relationships, overlap, complement and disturb each other. The artist aims to create, on the basis of interlinkíng the instruments of objective analysis and his poetics, a psychedelic pressure in the viewers' minds, to induce a kind of imaginary vertigo. For him, this is the way of seeing the truth that for a nanosecond flashes somewhere in the gap between the seen and the read.
The exhibition takes place within the project entitledRole Exchange. Atrium 2005-2015, which in hindsight verifies the attitude of the Moravian Gallery in Brno towards presenting contemporary art from the past decade. The nameRole Exchangerefers to a phenomenon typical for the observed period, when artists become programme directors, curators, architects of exhibitions. The review launched through the project starts with the selection of exhibiting artists, recommended by programme directors, in this case artists exhibiting at the Atrium between2005-2015. The list generated by them determined a sequence of five prepared exhibitions (Boris Ondreička, Adéla Svobodová, Martin Horák, Patricie Fexová, Jana Kalinová) including an added exhibition note on the graphic design of the Atrium by Radim Peško.
Author of the concept is Yvona Ferencova, curator of the Atrium in years 2005-2015.
