Václav Ryčl - Blue Boy

Václav Ryčl (1966–1994) came to attention with his raw, existential, emotive texts published after his death by the Brno publishers Petrov. His estate, which bears witness to the clash of talent with mental illness, incorporates interesting photographs, drawings and films previously unknown to the public.

The Czech poet, writer and photographer Václav Ryčl (1966-1994) belongs to artists recognized more for their literary output (anthologies Pavilion No. 13 and Life Is A Terrible Companion). However, Ryčl had a short spell of intense passion for photography and film. The exhibition will provide the first glance at this, as yet, uncharted territory.
The main objective of this project is not to show photographs and films (often of a private nature) as a Work of art but rather as records motivated by the pathological disposition of their author; as notes with a therapeutic effect which unfortunately was not strong enough to prevent his voluntary departure form the world; as a metaphor, a glimpse into a schizophrenic mind, in which images fade in/out with texts and voices.
