Without the collectors and generous donors from the past the museums of today would be much poorer and some would not have come to being at all. The collections of the Moravian Gallery greatly benefited from the benevolence of outstanding collectors, among them Bedřich Silva Tarouca, Jan II of Liechtenstein, Arnold Skutezky and Eduard Sykora.
The selection of paintings, drawings and prints gives us another glimpse of their private collections, this time concentrating on what was, for them, contemporary art - the art of the 19th century. The exhibition is an outcome of the research grant project The Collection of 19th Century Art in the Moravian Gallery and its Formation through Private Collections.
