Although the resources for purchases of works of art relative to their increasing prices are diminishing, over the last fifteen years all the collections of the Moravian Gallery in Brno have been enriched by valuable items. The exhibition will present a selection of the most important acquisitions from 1993 onwards, a special position among which is maintained by the legacy of the photographer Jan Svoboda, although their sheer volume and structure are also imposing. Extending collections is a far cry from merely amassing objects. Under the circumstances of tightening the belts it is a carefully thought-out activity of adding to and re-evaluating the intentions of our predecessors.
