The Third Side of the Wall

Around three hundred works by more than a hundred authors represent the broad spectrum of free photography from the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Artists such as Dagmar Hochová, Markéta Luskačová, Emila Medková, Viktor Kolář, Martin Martinček, Vilém Reichmann, Jan Saudek, Tono Stano, Jan Svoboda, Jindřich Štreit and others tracked the progressive trends of the 1960's and developed alternatives to the official art using new methods and individual approaches to meaningful creation face to face with the occupation regime. Unofficial culture, which incorporated a substantial part of photography, created a pocket of freedom, the imaginary third side of the wall dividing the world. The exhibition dedicated to the two decades of darkness after the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968 continues the series of systematic presentations from the photography collection of the MG. The exhibition catalogue is available for 550 CZK.
