OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION JOSEF ŠÍMA: THE ROAD TO LE GRAND JEU

Josef Šíma is an essential representative of European modern painting. The exhibition in the Governor's Palace commemorates Šimov's artistic career from its beginnings in Brno, when his work was fascinated by modern technologies, after the moment of rooting among the artists of the Parisian avant-garde, which was confirmed by his work in the art group Le Grand Jeu. The artists of this surrealist group tried to break beyond the real boundaries, using all sorts of means - drugs, alcohol, sleep deprivation, breathing or meditation techniques. Sima's work became more abstract, he has created poetics based largely on his own experiences of excursions to nature or the search for mythological symbols and the roots of humanity. The exhibition will feature his paintings of dreamy landscapes, torsos in the landscape, or portraits of his friends and family. The exhibition will introduce Josef Šíma as the main mediator between French and Czech avant-garde
