Brief Specifications Of The Project
The aim of the project is digitising the firm J. Schreiber &
Neffen's pattern books and catalogues from (1874) 1892-1945 to
preserve important documents from the central European glass
manufacture history as Europe's cultural heritage. A database of
digitised collection will support international cooperation among
European institutions whose collections include the firm and its
successors' products so it will contribute to deepen research into
the central European glass manufacture history.
Project Description in Detail
Surprisingly well preserved despite the bad times, a unique
collection of the firm J. Schreiber & Neffen's pattern books
and catalogues (called "J. Schreiber & Neffen" in the text to
make it simple; different names used in the company history are not
ignored in translation) is a key source of knowledge of production
assortment of the firm that was once among the leading
Austrian-Hungarian glass manufacturers. That is why many museums
house its products (MAK, Vienna; Universalmuseum Johanneum, Graz;
Nationalmuseum, Stockholm; Iparmuveszeti Muzeum, Budapest;
MG, Brno; SNG, Bratislava; National Museum, Krakow, and
more).
The digitised collection of J. Schreiber & Neffen pattern
books and catalogues will be available to the public on the
database of information on the glassworks assortment, the use of
glass technologies, methods of glass refining, and important
clients and designers.
In a wider context, the aim of the project is a network of
databases that will map and preserve valuable archival items of
European glass production and with it, it will significantly
support research into the central European history. Development of
the cooperation among partner organisations will strengthen the
birth of new knowledge of the area of science and research, but
also encourage cooperation on a wide spectrum of cultural
institutions' educational and presentation activities.
