The exhibition will present almost the entire collection of baroque sketches from the Alte Galerie (Landesmuseum Joanneum) in Graz, Austria.
The collection took shape through purchases and donations. A substantial part of it was obtained as early as 1838 from the legacy of Joseph August Stark, the founder and first director of the gallery. A number of sketches passed to the collection in the course of the 19th and 20th centuries from the property of the Counts Attems. Apart from Austrian artists, such as Martin Johann Schmidt, Paul Troger, Caspar Franz Sambach, Franz Sigrist Sr. and the circle of Franz Anton Maulbertsch, the exhibition will introduce the Italian artists Carlo Innocenzo Carlone, Giovanni Battista Pittoni and Francesco Solimena, as well as some from other European countries: Michael Willmann (Silesia), Franz Joseph Spiegler, Georg Anton Urlaub, Christian Wink (Germany). The show will make an interesting supplement to the permanent exhibition of baroque art in the Moravian Gallery in Brno.
