One of the less familiar Moravian collectors and patrons is the painter and sculptor Eduard Sykora. In addition to building up a collection of paintings he devoted himself to amassing prints and medals.
The collection of engravings was in the making for over twenty years and contains over two thousand prints from the 15th to the 19th century. After his death it was incorporated in the holdings of the Moravian Gallery in Brno. The engravings present a cross-section of Italian Renaissance graphic art, represented by virtuosos with a masterful command of both the brush and the engraving needle, such as Andrea Mantegna, Palma il Giovane, and Annibale Carracci.
