Art for the blind and visually impaired

The core of the Moravian Gallery collection of artwork for blind and visually impaired visitors was first presented at the "Possible Messages" exhibition (2001). The works specially created for the collection, selected with careful regard to their purpose, reflect the various approaches to the quest for communication on the part of different artists.

This unique series features works by artists providing comprehensive sensory experiences: objects by Jiří Kolář, Adriena Šimotová, Václav Cigler, Radek Kratina, Monogramist T. D., Petr Nikl, Markéta Varádiová, Miloš Cvach, drawings and prints by Dalibor Chatrný and Olga Karlíková, sound recordings by Milan Grygar, visual poetry by Jiří Valoch, artist's books by Petr Babák, Eliška Čabalová, Jana Honecová, Lubomír Jarcovják, Miroslava and Lubomír Krupka, Sophie Curtil and Pavlína Doležalová, and mould-made paper by Miroslava Symonová.

Such a plethora of forms, approaches and possibilities, introduced without obvious composition system, is in accord with the exhibition concept, with the spotlight on cognition and subjective human experience. The historical context of artworks, issues of continuity and discontinuity, are sidelined. A work of art is understood as a means of social and cultural communication that stands alone.

Selected works are showcased in the Museum of Applied Arts as a small permanent exhibition, with opportunities for hands-on contact for blind and visually impaired visitors.
