”The Quest for Design!” exhibition is an overview of work produced by the undergraduates of the Graphic Design and Visual Communication Studio of the College of Applied Arts, Prague in the course of the past five years.
Over thirty projects have been brought to fruition under the guidance of Professor Rostislav Vaněk. The projects cover nearly all graphic art disciplines, from posters, book designs, typographic experiments and information design to social projects and co-ordinated visual styles for cultural and state institutions (the National Museum of Technology and the Municipal Library in Prague, visual style for the City of Brno). The focal point of the show is a pilot project for the students of graphic art colleges on the theme of a new visual style for the Brno Biennale. The future of the event depends, among other things, on the extent to which the younger generation of artists will participate in the preparation, production and organisation of the Biennale. In addition, "The Quest for Design!" exhibition sets out to find answers for questions that have recently been in the centre of graphic designers' attention. The show introduces poster series alongside records of spatial installations, book projects and visual style programmes. Apart from a catalogue, it is accompanied by the Work! publication summarizing the activities of the studio in the last five years.
